John-Joe O'Toole played 55 minutes as Colchester United's reserves lost 3-0 to Major League Soccer side San Jose Earthquakes this afternoon.
Midfielder O'Toole, who has been out for the last ten months after suffering a serious knee injury playing for the U's at Charlton Athletic last April, returned as the U's lost out to the American side at Spurs Lodge, the training ground base of Tottenham Hotspur.
The Earthquakes have an official partnership with the Premier League side and are in England as part of their preparations for the new MLS season.
Striker Steven Gillespie also featured for an hour in the match, as he returns to fitness following a hamstring injury.
