Brian Wilson is likely to return to training next month, following his troublesome ankle injury.

The Colchester United right-back, who was in impressive form for the U’s in the early part of the season, has not played since the start of December.

Wilson damaged his ankle in training and is currently working with U’s physio Tony Flynn.

The versatile 27-year-old is desperate to return to full training.

However, after seeing a specialist last week, it now seems more likely that the former Stoke City trainee may have to wait a little longer to return to action.

Colchester manager John Ward said: “Brian saw a specialist towards the end of last week.

“We think that he will be back on the training pitch within the next two weeks.

“He’s had a bit of soreness in it.

“The initial prognoses was between ten and 12 weeks but Brian put it down to six, being the positive person he is!

“We’ve got to six or seven weeks and there’s a little bit of sore.

“We think the initial prognoses of between ten and 12 weeks is more accurate.”
