All-time favourite Karl Duguid has revealed he would love to return to Colchester United in the future.

But the U’s legend has insisted that his immediate priority is to keep troubled Plymouth Argyle in League One.

Duguid is set to play against the U’s for the first time tomorrow when they travel to play his struggling Pilgrims side at Home Park.

The versatile 32-year-old racked up nearly 450 appearances for Colchester over 14 seasons, before leaving for Plymouth in 2008.

Duguid has stressed his main focus now is on saving his current club from the dreaded drop.

However, he admitted that he still has a soft spot for the U’s.

And Colchester’s promotion-winning captain would welcome the chance to return there in the future.

Duguid said: “To go back to Colchester United at some point in the future would be the icing on the cake for me.

“I would love to be part of that football club again in some capacity and you can never say never.

“Colchester had been a big part of my life since I was 15 years old.

“I became a supporter and in a strange way, I even enjoyed the bad times there.

“When I was injured, Marie Partner would ring me up and ask me how my injury was and Peter Heard would too.

“I was there as a kid and progressed and I was captain; it co-incided with the success of the club.

“What will be, will be.

“But I have a massive task here at Plymouth Argyle - if we avoid relegation, it would be like winning promotion.”
