Colchester United are mourning the loss of their former captain, Reg Stewart.
He passed away in the early hours of Sunday morning, aged 85.
The no-nonsense centre-half was the first player to skipper the U's in the Football League, in 1950.
Stewart, who moved to Colchester from Sheffield Wednesday in 1949 for a fee of £1,000, spent nine seasons at Colchester and made more than 250 league appearances for the club.
He was a regular at Layer Road following his retirement from the game and often attended matches at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
Colchester United will pay tribute to Stewart at their home game with MK Dons on Saturday.
