We were terrible.
That was goalkeeper Ben Williams’ honest assessment of Colchester United’s performance after they were thrashed 4-1 at lowly Bury.
The U’s churned out one of their most disappointing displays of the season, after they slumped to a heavy defeat at a soggy Gigg Lane.
Williams tried his best to keep Colchester in the game and pulled off a string of impressive saves.
But he conceded the U’s had no excuses for their dire showing against the Shakers.
Williams said: “We hold our hands up – we were terrible.
“We started off brightly and had we got the early goal we’d been trying for, it might have been a different story.
“But we didn’t play well at all and there’s no glossing over that."
