A late headed goal against his former club by Rob King gave Canvey Island a 1-0 victory over Colchester United in the Essex Senior Cup final tonight.
King, who is a former U's youngster, headed in Ashley Dumas's free-kick with seven minutes to go to give the Gulls a deserved victory at Ship Lane.
U's reserve-team boss Richard Hall said: "Fair play to Canvey.
"I'm not saying the best team won, because we should be the best team but the hardest-working team won.
"They have put a real shift in and Canvey deserved what they got.
“From our point of view, we’re disappointed.
“We’ve come all this way and we’ve entered the competition to win it."
“But I have no qualms and the hardest-working team on the night won it."
