Colchester United will continue to run the rule over trialist Jake Young this week after he featured for their reserves against Oxford United.
The West Ham United youngster helped the U’s second-string edge closer to the Football Combination northern section title with a 2-1 victory, at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
Right-back Young, 18, is currently a second-year apprentice at Upton Park but is unlikely to be offered professional terms by the Hammers.
U’s reserve-team boss Richard Hall said: “Jake slotted in very well against Oxford and he was playing in an experienced team who helped him through.
“We wanted to get him in and give him an opportunity to see what he can do.
“We’ll get him in for the rest of the week and maybe next week, too.”
