Colchester United have offered forward Kayode Odejayi a new contract.
And U’s boss John Ward has also confirmed his desire to keep highly-rated midfielder Anthony Wordsworth at the club next season.
Odejayi, crowned U’s Player of the Year earlier this week, is one of around a dozen Colchester players who will see their current deals expire this summer.
But Ward has confirmed that he is keen to tie the former Barnsley front-man down to another contract and keep him at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
Ward said: “I’ve made Kay an offer and he’s someone I want to keep here.
“I think Kayode will tell you himself that he wants more goals.
“That goes without question for a centre-forward.
“But the contribution that he makes for other people has been recognised by the supporters.
“Kay may not always catch the eye but he always gives his best and that’s important.”
