He may have missed out on the Olympic dream ticket he desired the most.

But promising Colchester athlete Louis Persent will at least still play a part in the London Games.

Persent just failed to claim a place in Team GB’s men’s 400 metres squad, despite securing the B standard time in his event.

However, the 22-year-old has been involved in the huge task of helping to adminster the global showpiece.

As a graphic designer, Persent has spent the last year working for the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG).

Located only a stone’s throw away from the Olympic Stadium in London’s Docklands, the Colchester Harriers member has helped to produce various graphics for the official Games documentation, such as maps and spectator guides.

And the chances are that if you are lucky enough to have an Olympic ticket, it will have Persent’s handywork on it.

Persent said: “It’s been quite interesting being an athlete trying to make it to the Olympics and also being involved in that side of things, too.

“It made me appreciate just how complicated the whole process is.

“I was bitterly disappointed not to make it but I was very lucky to have a job as interesting as that and play a part in the whole process.”

Despite missing out on the chance to compete at London 2012, Persent will nevertheless still have the opportunity to compete at the Olympic Stadium while the Games are going on.

Representing Shaftesbury Barnet, will be one of a number of athletes from London clubs who will get the chance to take part in the one-off event, next Wednesday.

“I’m looking forward to it and it’ll be a good way to finish off the season,” said Persent, who runs in a meeting in Hendon tomorrow.

Persent will also be attending two days’ worth of athletics as a spectator, taking in events such as the 110m hurdles and the relays.

Although he understandably admits he would much rather love to be competing than watching, he nevertheless cannot wait to be a part of the Games.

Persent added: “Now that I’ve got over the disappointment of not making it, I’m so excited.

“I was in Stratford on Tuesday and there’s such a buzz around the area.

“In the last week or so, it really feels as though things have been cranked up to another level.

“I’m really excited, because it means that I get to see a whole range of things and there’s so much to look forward to.”
