Colchester's Dominic King believes being one of the last athletes to compete at London 2012 can be a positive.

The race-walker’s long wait to compete at the Olympic Games will finally end tomorrow when he competes in the 50km race walk.

The 29-year-old will be the first British walker to take part in an Olympic 50km event since Sydney 2000, when Chris Maddocks competed.

King will race for gold around London’s streets, which will be flanked by thousands of spectators along the route.

And having watched Team GB rake in the medals over the last fortnight, he believes he can use the wait to his advantage.

King said: “Being one of the last to compete is a positive.

“You can see where others have made mistakes and and prepare for them.

“It’s been really good watching Team GB get all of our medals on TV.

“I’ve been watching all of the events and it was especially good to see the marathon 20k race walk.

“I’ve raced there before on the course before but it was good to see where things like the drink stops and judges posts are.

“I’m sure that it’ll be an amazing atmosphere.

“It’s great to see so many people out in force competing Team GB and they only want you to do well and do your best."
