Scott Styris has signed for Essex for the upcoming Friends Provident t20 campaign.
The 34-year-old, Australian-born all-rounder has an abundance of international experience with New Zealand international and is an aggressive right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium pace bowler.
He has previously played in England for Middlesex and Durham.
Styris will join up with Essex from Thursday, June 10 for the away game versus Surrey Lions, and his first home game will be on the following day when Essex Eagles entertain Glamorgan Dragons.
He will remain with Essex until the end of the group stage of the FP t20 which ends on Sunday, July 18.
An option remains to extend his contract for the quarter final stage.
Essex coach Paul Grayson said: “He is a vastly experienced cricketer and that is why we have signed him.
“He has shown good form for New Zealand and has the experience of the World Cup to offer.
“Scott is a general all-rounder and a good T20 player and we hope he will make a big impact on the side.
“As a committed cricketer he knows how to play the game and is a canny one-day player, he could well prove to be a very astute signing for Essex.”
