Witham Town chairman Tony Last is hoping Santa Claus is going to bring Witham Town a winning Christmas festive programme.

The much changed Spa Road club have been showing encouraging signs of improvement since new manager Danny Greaves moved into the hot seat.

And as Town continue their frustrating, staggered fight to get clear of the Ryman League, division one north relegation zone, Last is looking for a good run over the Christmas period in their games at Tilbury on Saturday and at home to Maldon a week later.

He said: “We are fed-up with our current stop-start programme after having two of our last four games waterlogged off.

“Now the team is winning again we want to carry on playing and get on a roll and, if we win our games in hand it won’t be long before we are climbing up the table.

“Our January and February programme is looking very busy and with games in hand on almost every team above us, especially those clubs immediately around us – four in hand on Waltham Forest; three on Ilford and Chatham Town and four on Thamesmead – our position in the table could soon change considerably.

“We have a lot of Tuesday night games coming up in the New Year and the current form guide suggests we could do well in them.

“Danny has brought several new players in and has got some momentum going. We don’t want that to end.”

Last also confirmed that the recent new signing spree has come to an end; “That’s it for now,” he said.

With last Saturday’s home game against current league leaders Waltham Abbey rained off, the Witham squad were put through a gruelling Monday night workout with the local running club which included a testing six-mile run.
