Heybridge Swifts are proving the doubters wrong, as they made it seven points from the last possible nine with a super 1-0 win at Ashford Town in the Ryman League premier division.

Swifts remain bottom of the table, but their upturn in form suggests they will not be there for much longer.

With the fifth best defensive record in the league, they were able to shut out Ashford for 90 minutes, despite having James Robinson sent off for a second yellow card.

It was a disjointed performance from Ashford who could have no complaints at the result, because the visitors belied their position at the foot of the table by playing some confident and skilful football.

The in-form Swifts had more opportunities to score during an otherwise even first half, while Ashford looked lightweight up front.

Swifts scored the only goal of the game seven minutes into the second half when Robbie King headed home from a corner. Ashford had to respond, but did not test visiting goalkeeper Ollie Morris-Saunders enough.
