FC Clacton boss David Coyle admitted the result was everything after watching his side scrape a 2-1 victory at March Town United.
The Seasiders boss admitted his side’s performance was ‘hopeless’ in the Ridgeons League division one encounter but was delighted to head home with three precious points in the bag.
Tommy Noble fired Clacton in front from the penalty spot and then, after the hosts equalised, Paul Hillier hooked home a 78th-minute winner, following good work by his brother, Sean.
Coyle told the Gazette: “In terms of performance, we were hopeless and didn’t do much right, apart from scoring the two goals.
“Our passing was poor, our decision-making was poor and our positioning was poor, but we were still good enough to get the job done and that was very pleasing.
“March were half-decent and better than their league position suggests.
“Given the fact they played the whole of the second half with only ten men (after having a player sent-off) I’ve got nothing but praise and respect for them.”
Coyle believes the old football adage about sides picking up points despite not playing well applies to his current Seasiders outfit.
“The points are everything,” he said.
“We’ve played well and lost games this season, so to perform badly and win was very satisfying.
“At the end of the day I’m a perfectionist – I want us to play well and win.
“But if that’s not possible then the points, by far and away, are the most important thing.”
