FC Clacton boss David Coyle believes his side have developed a winning mentality.
And he insists that to some extent their destiny lies in their own hands this season – because if they realise their potential they are good enough to get promoted.
Clacton head to nearby Brantham Athletic on Saturday hoping to build on last weekend’s 2-1 victory at March Town United.
The points were particularly pleasing as, according to the manager, his team’s performance was ‘terrible’.
However, looking ahead to Saturday, Coyle told the Gazette: “It’s the same scenario we face in every game because if we play well we’ll win.
“It’s as simple as that and, from a mental point of view, that’s the way we approach every game.
“However, if we don’t play well we’re capable of getting beaten by anyone.
“We’re only human but it’s nice to know that, to some extent, our destiny lies in our own hands because the results are down to us and how we play.”
Brantham have made a bright start to life in the Ridgeons League and currently sit third in division one, just five points behind leaders Newmarket.
“They’re new to the league but they’re not an unknown quantity to me because I know a few of their players,” added Coyle.
“I’ve coached a couple of them down the years and know a fair bit about them.
“They’re having a very good season so far and it should be an interesting game.”
Winger Matt Waters (ankle) may be fit to play some part, most probably as a substitute.
Defender Lee Barrett will also be hoping to recover from a groin injury.
