Far from being a meaningless end-of-season fixture, Braintree Town’s Blue Square Bet Premier game at Wrexham tomorrow may be particularly memorable for one long-serving member of their squad.
Brad Quinton’s participation in last weekend’s defeat by York City saw him move level top of the club’s all-time appearance list with Paul Young and a 527th outing in Wales will take him out on his own at the summit.
Young made his 526 appearances in an Iron shirt in the late 1960s and ‘70s and Quinton, who is now 32-years-old, feels he has more to offer Braintree in the future.
He said: “The appearance record means a lot as it’s a great milestone for me.
“It is a great club and I enjoy it here.
“I’ve probably got one more season, but we’ll see how it goes.
“Hopefully that will be here at Braintree.
The Gaffer said he wants me back and we just have to sit down and sort some things out.
“I feel fit and I love my football still.
“I’ve looked after myself and that’s the key really.
“I love being here and Braintree have been so good to me.”
