CELEBRATIONS spilled out into Colchester High Street after England beat Ukraine to make the semi final of Euro 2020.

The Three Lions stormed through their quarter-final clash with an impressive 4-0 victory over their eastern European rivals on Saturday evening.

Following the full-time whistle, revellers flooded out of pubs and bars in the town centre and into Colchester High Street.

A large group of fans gathered near the taxi rank, singing “It’s Coming Home” at the top of their voices.

Essex Police was called to the scene to ensure the crowd was under control, but said no crimes were reported as fans gathered.

A spokesman said: “We monitored a group of people in Colchester High Street after the Euro 2020 match between England and Ukraine.

“The road was kept clear and the crowd dispersed. No arrests were made.”

Almost 20million people watched the Three Lions’ victory live on BBC One on Saturday, with another 5.2million tuning in on iPlayer.

Two goals from captain Harry Kane and headers from Harry Maguire and Jordan Henderson handed the England side a resounding win at Stadio Olimpico.

Many more residents watched the game from their local boozer, in a welcome boost to the borough’s pubs.

Jimbo Green runs the Artilleryman, in Artillery Street.

He said: “It was absolutely amazing. We had a full house and the garden and gazebo were full too.

“Everyone seem to go home very happy and in good spirits.

“It was made even better by England winning. We are almost fully booked for Wednesday now.

“We couldn’t have wished for a better night. I must say a big thanks to all my staff.”

Laura Lamb, landlady of the Friar, in St Christopher Road, Colchester, said: “We were completely full and it was a really good night.

“Everyone behaved themselves.

“It is lovely to have people back inside the pub and it is good for business.”

Gareth Southgate’s men will now meet Denmark in the last four at Wembley on Wednesday evening.

Either Italy or Spain are waiting for a potential final next weekend.
