On Saturday 5th October, 2024, local band Disjunction debuted their first Colchester gig at the Queens Street House Brewery.
The trio, made up of bassist and lead singer Theo Williams, guitarist Kai Van Sickle and drummer Ned Boggis, made a memorably nostalgic performance for any and all fans of pop-punk and grunge music.
Overflowing with enthusiastic, teenage fans, the pub hosted a roaring night of iconic punk and indie sounds, along with the band’s first original song.
Popular among the Colchester youth, Disjunction managed to completely fill the small venue with their loyal supporters, named by the band as the 'Junkies'.
This was only a small demonstration of how the live music scene within the city is thriving among the younger generations, despite the pernicious influences of online streaming platforms and easily accessible, pre-recorded performances.
“I could have stayed for the whole night, if they were playing” a member of the audience reported, which captures perfectly how truly immersive the entire experience was.
From the lively mosh pit, to their energetic friends and fans jumping around further back, the performance conjured an inescapably electric energy that dominated the pub for the best part of the evening.
Through their explosively positive entrance to the Colchester gigging scene, it is quite clear that this is not the last time Disjunction will be captivating audiences within the area.
In a city so rich with artists, musicians and passionate young people, it is almost impossible for an up-and-coming band like this to go unnoticed.
A perfect example of the revival of passionate-fuelled live music, Disjunction is certainly a band that – given the right support – is destined for a successful career in performance, both in and beyond the Colchester scene.
So, if you are a fan of grungy, pop-punk sounds, or are simply interested in supporting local artists, Disjunction may just be the perfect new band for you.
