Looking for a cosy alternative to the hustle and bustle of the chain coffee shops?
This tucked away café could be just the place for you, proving that Colchester has a lot to offer when you’re in need of a place to seek respite from the boredom of high street shopping.
Situated in the Bank Passage, an alley at the top of the high street, The Passage House is a Turkish style café offering a wide range of food and drink.
With a welcoming atmosphere and 4.7 stars on google reviews, I was keen to visit and see if it was worthy of the high rating.
When I visited for the first time, I ordered a medium latte which was reasonably priced; it arrived fairly quickly and tasted pleasant.
On my second visit I ordered a mocha and carrot cake, both of which were delicious and not too expensive.
The drinks are served in mugs that are comfortable to hold and well insulated, as well as, in my opinion, being quite cute.
For anyone who needs a place to do a spot of work while enjoying a hot drink, I would recommend The Passage House; free Wi-Fi is provided in addition to plug sockets for charging devices – making it ideal for anyone using a laptop.
The Wi-Fi is relatively fast and usable for most purposes – I had no trouble accessing files from the cloud and searching the web.
The atmosphere was quiet and peaceful, creating a pleasant contrast with the busy high street, making it easy to relax and enjoy your food and drink or focus on work.
There is a toilet, however, it is not accessible to wheelchair users or people with severe mobility issues as it is located at the top of a steep staircase.
Overall, I would highly recommend the Passage House: it is a pleasant, peaceful and well worth a visit!
