When do you think Christmas should start?

Whether it’s on December 1st, November 11th or on the 25th of December, all over the UK most households begin to put up their decorations in late November or early December, and Christmas adverts start playing at every opportunity, then it starts to feel festive.

Even though the decorations are up, and carols are being blasted into my ears, I’ve found it difficult to feel as though Christmas is round the corner.

Maybe it’s because a stereotypical Christmas contains snow and reindeer and all I seem to see out the window is rain and pigeons, or maybe I’m just getting older, the magic is certainly taking its time.

So, here are my ideas on how to feel as merry and jolly as Santa himself.

Nothing beats a steaming mug of chocolate drink, especially with whipped cream and marshmallows to get you hyped for Christmas.

A good Christmas film, many people have a family tradition of watching a certain film or series, close to the festive period, and if you don’t have one, try to start a trend and each year watch the same film so you know that Christmas is near.

An advent calendar is a fantastic way to count down the days.

Nothing beats opening another door every day, knowing that soon the doors would all be open.

You don’t have to purchase one either, making one yourself is also a good way to lift spirits.

Shopping, it’s pretty obvious, but buying presents for friends and loved ones not only makes a positive impact, but wrestling with the wrapping part is a way to boost creativity as well, and I love seeing people’s faces when they see what I got them.

Of course these are just ideas, there are so many other ways to feel Christmassy, but these are definitely my top ones.

Merry Christmas!
