On Friday 22nd of November I travelled to Union Chapel in North London, to witness one of FLO’s intimate performances after the release of their debut album, Access All Areas.

The R&B band was formed in 2019 when two of the girls met at the Sylvia Young Theatre School and later discovered the 3rd member on Instagram. They released their debut single, Cardboard Box which gained over 900,000 views in the first week of its release.

The London-based R&B group consists of singers: Jorja Douglas, Renée Downer and Stella Quaresma. The group are best known for their songs: Cardboard Box, Not My Job, Fly Girl (ft. Missy Elliot) and Walk Like This.

On the 17th November 2024, they released their debut album Access All Areas, which has accumulated over 1million views to date and gained the position of number 3 in the album charts in its first week.

The highly anticipated album includes collaborations with singer and actress “Cynthia Erivo” as well as rapper “GloRilla”

Songs I would recommend listening to from the album are: Bending My Rules, Caught Up and Check.

The trio have recently returned from touring with R&B artist Kehlani on her North American leg of the Crash World Tour. Touring with an artist as famous as Kehlani, has helped expose them to a new fan base across the world, whilst promoting their new album.

The performance began with a short Q&A session with questions from fans. In this session, the audience learnt more about their personalities and what life has been like whilst touring.

The performance, which lasted for just under an hour, included: Cardboard Box, Bending My Rules, Walk Like This, In My Bag and Check.

After regularly streaming their songs over the past year, it was a privilege to hear them perform live. Their voices were harmonious, and their relaxed personalities kept the audience engaged throughout. The audience of mixed age groups, responded well to their performance, cheering and singing energetically.

During the concert, the girls asked which track from their new album the audience wanted to hear, the response was unanimous: “Bending My Rules”. Their performance of this song transfixed the audience.

Union Chapel was transformed into a stylish concert venue through the use of red lighting, in keeping with their album cover. The lighting created a soothing and pleasant ambience. Although the seats weren’t reserved, it was easy to find one with a good view of the stage. This was my first time ever attending an event at Union Chapel, I felt that the venue was welcoming, and the acoustics were good.

The experience of attending an intimate concert was different compared to others held at bigger venues, the smaller venue gave the performance a more personal feeling. I thoroughly enjoyed attending their performance and I can’t wait to hear what new songs they release soon.
